You’re right — this problem has been around for far too long.

It’s pretty easy to use YUI 2.8.1 with Maps 3.8.x — check out http://developer.yahoo.com/yui/examples/yuiloader/yl-addmodule.html as a place to get started. If that doesn’t get you going, visit http://yuilibrary.com/forum and post a link to your project there…we’ll take a look.
