@Jeremy: I'm sorry for the frustrating experience you're having. Obviously, the YUI project members are not the same folks who code My Yahoo!, but like you I use it all the time -- and Yahoo! News, which may be where the problem is happening. I'll do what I can to pass your details on to someone who can help. Regards, Eric

I guess I share Paul Klein’s frustration (above). I couldn’t find anywhere to post a help request.

In the last week or so, my browser (Safari 1.2.3 (v125.9)) has been hanging up on AP stories I’m trying to read from My Yahoo.
I’m wondering if a feature has been added or modified that causes this. The first part of the story will open, along with all the ads of course, and then I get the spinning pizza, my computer’s fan speeds up to turbo, and everything stops. I have to “force quit” to get out of there.

Please don’t tell me I have to upgrade my Safari, or add anything else clever to my machine. I live in Rural America, and the only wire that reaches us is the telephone. So, (as are, I believe, the majority of Internet connectors in the USA) I am on dial-up, and I do not relish leaving my machine connected to the web for the countless hours it takes to download upgrades.
Help!
Please leave stuff alone so we antiques can still reach you!

(I long ago gave up on cnn.com which would simply kick Safari off.)

@Jeremy,

As I said to Paul, I'm sorry that one of the Yahoo! products is giving you a bad experience on your browser of choice. As a fellow Safari user and a news.yahoo.com addict, I particularly empathize; what you're describing would drive me batty.

I can offer you three things:

1. Here's the link to report the problem you're having. Be sure to indicate in your report all the things you told me -- it's crashing your browser, specific details about your browser, note whether you've run all relevant software updates (the free ones from Apple), etc.

http://help.yahoo.com/fast/help/us/news/cgi_newshelp

2. I'll pass along your note to a few people who might be able to help.

3. I've asked the News team to consider adding the help link on their footer (where, like you, I think it belongs).

I realize that none of these immediately solves your problem. As a temporary solution, I would consider downloading the Camino web browser (which is fast) or the Firefox browser (which is similar to Camino but not nearly as fast as what you're used to with Safari). Firefox is a fully A-Grade browser that, while not as quick as Safari, should give you full support on Yahoo!'s web products on your OS. (The latest Safari, on OS X 10.4, does as well.)

Regards,
Eric

@Curious,

Jack's EXT project is entirely compatible with YUI today; you are free to use both in your projects. In some cases there will be overlap between YUI and EXT. But our roadmap continues to focus on building what we regard as the most important foundational utilities and interactive widgets and doing so with detailed documentation, full A-Grade compatibility, and high quality. The great thing about EXT is that it extends YUI beyond its base and provides developers an even richer toolkit from which to draw.

Eric

@Paul,

I'm sorry that you had a bad experience trying to provide feedback on Yahoo.com. You're right that there's no obvious way to do that (although most individual Yahoo! properties provide excellent support through http://suggestions.yahoo.com/ or through links off individual pages. Was there a specific module or part of the main page that was giving you trouble?
