YUI PHP Loader Beta 2 Released

December 2, 2009 at 12:44 pm by Chad Auld | In Development | 4 Comments

We’ve spent the past few months working on beta 2 of the YUI PHP Loader. The latest release brings some general code cleanup, bug fixes, and performance enhancements. It also includes expanded API documentation and a new example which demonstrates mixed loading methods. Full details on beta 2 are available here.

In related news, we’ve had our first community port from PHP to Java (http://github.com/levancho/YUIJavaLoader). The first port came sooner than we initially expected and we hope other community members will help port PHP Loader to other popular languages as well.

Also, a number of users have asked about support for using the existing combo service to combine YUI resources with custom ones. The existing combo service on yui.yahooapis.com does not support this. However, you can utilize PHP Loader to pull off such a task with some local combo handling. Here is a sample project that demonstrates one approach to this problem — http://github.com/cauld/lissa.

If you’re a PHP Loader user and you weren’t here for YUICONF 2009 in October, you might want to catch the video from our PHP Loader session on YUI Theater:

  1. Before I was thinking that I do not need YUI PHP Loader as there is already YUI loader. My code become very unreadable and confusing. With YUI PHP Loader I have cleaner code, I am faster, and I do not have strange errors which where showing with YUI loader. Anyway, I just want to say thank you for new release.

  2. Just want to thank you for all the effort you guyz have been putting on in YUILibrary.

Now about the PHPLoder, one thing I’ve noticed is that the module names given on http://developer.yahoo.com/yui/phploader/ are not correct atleast for YUI3. For example, the page indicates the module name of Base CSS as “base”. After spending quite some time I found out that for YUI3 you have to actually use “cssbase” for the loader to work.

Not a big deal but just wanted to let you guyz know the information on that page is kind of stale.
