Minor YUI Assets Outage

Some of YUI’s hosted assets experienced an outage this evening. This issue has now been resolved. Please clear your browser cache if you are still seeing any issues, and ping us at outage@yuilibrary.com if that does not resolve the problem.

TreeView

That’s right. TreeView. It’s been a long time in the coming, but the initial drop of the TreeView widget is now available in a special out-of-cycle, totally breaking our own rules, 3.6.0 PR3.

TreeView’s user guide and API docs are available on our Staging site:

  • User Guide
  • API Docs

Every new component brings its own set of challenges, and TreeView has been no different. In addition to questions about how we would structure the class, we didn’t even have the available resources on the core team to bang it out. So Gonzalo Cordero stepped up and worked with Satyen, Allen, and others on the team to make it happen for 3.6.0.

There were some snags and some scheduling troubles that resulted in the code not making it into PR2, but we decided that it was important enough that we could bend the “no new features after PR2″ rule to finally ship it.

Gonzalo will be joining us to give a walk through of the API, architecture, and initial set of features. If you’ve been waiting for TreeView, please join us!

Yahoo Axis, part 2 – Mojito

Last week, Caridy Patiño and Eugene Kashida from the Axis Frontend team gave us a high level overview of Axis, how and why it combines native and web technology for its mobile offering, and its use of YUI ScrollView and AutoComplete, but we ran out of time before we could get into how Mojito fit into the equation.

They agreed to join us again this week to fill in those details. So for those of you interested in seeing a reference implementation of Mojito, we’ll be spending the whole hour on it!

YUI 3.6.0 PR2 Is Now Available

YUI 3.6.0 PR2 is now available to the developer community for feedback and testing on the Yahoo! CDN. Please take a moment to check it out via CDN or download.

The remaining target dates for the YUI 3.6.0 milestones are:

  • PR3 – July 17, 2012
  • GA – July 31, 2012

As we have previously mentioned, we are in the process of condensing our development cycle in order to transition to monthly releases.

You can check out the list of issues addressed in 3.6.0 PR2 and the full list of issues targeted for 3.6.0 in our bug tracker.

Additionally, you can take a look at the current change history rollup for all components in the library.

We invite you to join the ongoing development discussions happening with the team over on GitHub. For support, visit our forums, or join other YUI developers live in the #yui channel on irc.freenode.net (a web client is here).

Thanks for all your feedback and happy testing!

Yahoo Axis, built on Mojito and YUI

A couple of weeks ago, Yahoo! released Axis, a mobile browser and desktop browser plugin combo to improve web browsing across all your devices. It’s been getting great reviews, it’s free, and it just so happens that it’s built with Mojito and YUI!

Representing the Axis Frontend team, Lead developer Caridy Patiño and coworker Eugene Kashida will join us to talk about how it was built, but there’s too much to cover in an hour, so we want your help deciding what to focus on. Here are some options:

  1. we can focus on the YUI components used, which were extended, and which were custom built for Axis,
  2. we can talk about the product in general and the architecture decisions that were made, such as hybrid vs native vs web (this probably won’t allow much time to dig into the code),
  3. or we can focus on how Mojito was used, configured, and get more into the guts of that technology.

Let us know in the comments or tweet us @yuilibrary which you prefer or if you have other ideas!
