Graded Browser Support Update: Q3 2012

GBS Changes

Specific changes for this update include:

  • Revised support for fast iterating Firefox browser; Firefox testing coverage is now recommended for the latest major, stable version of the browser.
  • Revised support for Safari browser on non-mobile; Safari testing coverage is now recommended for the latest major, stable version of the browser on desktop operating systems.
  • Discontinue coverage for Safari on iOS 3.
  • Add coverage for Safari on iOS 5.
  • Add coverage for WebKit on Android 2.2.† and 2.3.† explicitly.
  • Add coverage for WebKit on Android 4.†.

  • Discontinue coverage for Safari on iOS 4.
  • Add coverage for Safari on iOS 6.
  • Add coverage for Chrome on Android 4.1.
  • Add coverage for IE 10.

  1. Seriously, keeping support for IE 6 when its market share is under 1%? Opera is around 2% yet is not supported, why would IE 6 stay in the list?

  2. Or support for IE7. IE6 and IE7 should be removed.

  3. I agree why do we continue to support IE6? It only provides ammunition for the continuation of business’s using this far out of date browser and limits dev teams ability to deliver a modern experience to their users, very disappointed.

  4. drop IE6? as much as it is a big pain for CSS
    there are still large enterprises with intranet/VPN apps still using IE6…

    the guidelines they give for GBS are sound, nice going YUI
